Reading Beautification, Inc. (RBI) is a community-based 501(C)(3) tax exempt organization with a mission to be the leading advocate and facilitator for a cleaner and more beautiful Reading. This mission is achieved through active partnerships, education and programs to develop stronger neighborhoods, thus enhancing economic development, maintaining housing stock values and contributing toward a better all-around environment in which to live, work, raise a family and do profitable business in a clean, attractive environment.

The basis of Reading Beautification Inc. began in 1993 with volunteer staff from both municipal and corporate entities. They understood, that it takes a movement to advocate and work for a clean, safe City where residents and businesses can thrive.
What We Provide
Reading Beautification, Inc. (RBI) recruits, organizes and provides volunteers and other resources to city residents and other organizations to perform community clean-ups, litter abatement, illegal dump site clean-ups, graffiti abatement and related beautification projects throughout the City of Reading. Other services performed by RBI include providing clean-up supplies, trash and recycling removal, on-site support, education and training in all aspects of the City of Reading “Clean-City Initiative.” RBI maintains detailed and accurate data available to the community at large and government agencies to detail the value and impact of their projects.

Reading, Pennsylvania is a City of approximately 89,000 people. In 2010, The City of Reading entered a program called “Act 47”; which is a state program for financially distressed cities. They did so as an effort to alleviate some of its’ financial shortcomings through financial management assistance from the State of Pennsylvania. Reading remains in the program for the foreseeable future. In 2011, Reading was named “the poorest city in the United States” based on data from the 2010 Census. It showed that 38% of residents in Reading live below the poverty level. Demographic breakdown of the City of Reading is approximately 58% Latino or Hispanic, 29% White, 13% African American.
